About Us

Blue Wright Publishing is a self-publishing company uniquely positioned to publish and distribute children's literature across several categories, genres, and ages. Blue Wright opens the door for other multicultural authors and illustrators to collaborate, create, and tell great stories together.

The publishing industry's prevalent issue is still representation from multicultural creators and character representation within children's books. In 2018, there were more children's books featuring animals and other non-human characters, 27% vs. 23% of all combined multicultural characters. Meanwhile, Black, Latino, and Native American combined wrote only 7% of the new children's book published in 2017.

Foundationally, "Blue Wright" seeks to change the narrative and introduce children's books from multicultural perspectives that are diverse in education, personality, themes, lessons, and learning development. Our mission is to promote inclusion and diversity among the categories, genres, and topics within children's literature, mixing new-age technologies and digital experiences. We aim to engage and inspire readers, illustrators, and writers alike to publish works that contribute to a greater global community.

Our Story

Hi, my name is Nordia Wright, Founder, and CEO of Blue Wright Publishing. My husband, Verrion Wright, and I started this venture long before we knew it. Allow me to tell you a story. I promise I'll try to make it quick. Verrion and I spent our freshman year of highschool literally in the same art house but unaware of each other. It wasn't until our sophomore year (1999) that the principal selected us to be the 1st class of a new arts and communications program. It was non for profit called TORCH (Together Our Resources Can Help)—the program consisted of some exceptional students from various schools around NYC. TORCH immersed us into a world of advertising, marketing, and communications and created a way to increase diversity. We have always loved and appreciated the arts; TORCH allowed us to see art in many new forms. It also introduced me to my high school sweetheart, aka my husband and Co-Founder.

Now, fast forward to 2013, when we welcome our beautiful daughter Aria into this world. My husband and I were ready; we were both on the same page about her upbringing. Since I have a background in early childhood education and child psychology, I was prepared to homeschool our daughter. I left my job and became a stay at home mom turned homeschooler.

I then had a fantastic book idea, B.A.(before Aria). I chatted to my husband about it, and before I could blink, he'd written a remarkable story. My apologies as I can't mention any details, but let's say it SUPER and coming soon! Many of our book ideas play out during homeschool, and every time we'd play with our daughter, new stories were born, giving life to Blue Wright Publishing.

I've tried many ventures throughout the years, but this is the 1st time my husband and I seriously decided to combine our talents. We published our first book Dumphy the Clumsy Dinosaur (2020). It's a tale of a clumsy dino, as the title suggests, inspired by Aria. It's fun, educational, and told in rhyme using word families for beginner readers. Now available for purchase on Amazon!

Foundationally, Bluewright Publishing opens the door for other multicultural authors and illustrators to collaborate and tell great stories together. Like TORCH that sought to integrate diversity, we also believe diverse voices need to be heard within the children's book industry.

I welcome you to join us on this incredible journey, and I encourage you to sign up for our newsletter on Bluewright.com. We have so many amazing things planned for the future, including children's books and homeschooling lessons to help with learning and character development!
